  1. a few years ago, my dog died, aged 16. she also lost the ability to walk more than a few steps, by the end. i had to carry her up and down staircases. her meals were limited by the fact that she could only stand up for two minutes or so. i would have been happy to hold her up, but that was too embarrassing for her, she would not eat like that. i would give anything to have her back.

  2. Oof. I was not prepared for this, in the middle of a work day. I’m now sobbing at my desk. Your illustrations and words are beautiful/devastating. What a tribute to your dog and your love for her.

  3. Just looking at the drawings my heart swelled, tears welled up. The surge of grief took my breath away for a moment, only to return with a long exhale that is gratitude and love. So often looking at the stars and remembering loved ones, especially those with paws, spontaneously evokes this practice. Sarah, thank you for putting sorrow and love into this creation. Thank you for all the tales of your pup over the years. I’m so sorry.
